I ordered the EARGO NEO hearing aids that were fully paid by my Federal Employee Health Benefit plan in April 2000. Very pleased for the first several months, then had to get replacements.

I ordered the EARGO NEO hearing aids that were fully paid by my Federal Employee Health Benefit...
Very good initial hearing amplificaiton, but Poor electronics/interior quality - Not reliable. I have had to return - and received free replacements - at least 5 times in less than two years. When first received, they are very good at the improvement of my hearing of ambient sounds. If they were consistent in the sound amplification, I would give them a 5 * rating - BUT, they do not "work" over time.
Pros:
  • 4 levels of sound amplification
  • Work well for the first couple of months
  • No cost replacement of failed hearing aids
Cons:
  • Not reliable operation - hearing aids fail after several months
  • More maintenance than shown in their online instructions

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution

User's recommendation: Go to a professional audiologist for their testing and recommendation. I did that years ago and paid for the Wydex over the ear hearing aids. EARGO seemed to be better with rechargable batteries and less intrusive appearance.

EARGO finally sent a detailed cleaning procedure for their hearing aids that I have followed, and this now works as it did orginally. Angela Goodrich is now my "go to" person at EARGO, as she listened to my complaint that the right hearing aid was very low in sound volume, and got her company to send me a replacement. By April 7th, it will be two years of using these hearing aids, and I will be quite interested to find out if they will honor any further no cost replacements.

The Eargo hearing products are no more effective than the $299 Hearing devices available on line..I am on my 2nd upgrade, thinking they must have improved????? NOT!!!! I am now wearing a different brand and am totally satisfied with the new hearing aids... I contacted Eargo and all they could do was offer on phone, repetitve instructions , that did not help...

Poor performing Product and Customer Service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

The Eargo hearing aids worked wonderfully for the first 30 days though lost performance over time. Even after proper cleaning they were no longer useable after several months.

Eargo agreed to replace the product, though if I wish to get their upgrade, I would have to spend an additional $2000. Since the first pair did not work for under 6 months, I certainly do not plan to spend more in hope that the upgrade would be better.

What makes the situation worse now is that we have never been able to speak with an agent since then to make replacement arrangements.

We now have to look into other products at a loss of over $2000 for the original set

Zero replacement, $900. more

I purchased the Eargo five hearing aids for 2500.00 dollars cash. They were stolen within 6 months which put me back to 40 percent hearing. Called Eargo and was told there is no replacement policy except to pay $924.00 for another pair. I thought this was a rip-off and have been with out for five months. Buyers be aware! Ask the replacement questions, I wish I had Sincerely, William Ward

Product Replacement and Horrible Company Policy

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Let me start this review by saying I am 90% satisfied with the product itself. I have the NEO HI FI.

My girlfriend knew I was very excited about the prospect of these hearing aids. She Purchased a set for me brand new in a sealed box for Christmas. I assumed she had bought from the Company. I was anxious to charge these and give them a try.

The left hearing aid was at a whisper while the right was great. This is where the the nightmare with this company begins. I call customer service and ask about warranty service. They ask for my email address and I tell them they were purchased by my girlfriend and I have no Idea what email she used.

I gave them a couple of hers and nothing came back as a purchaser email. I'm thinking to myself what difference does this make. Clearly this is their product, if it fell from the sky they should take care of any problems. I talked to her to find out that she had purchased them on Ebay.

I read the fine print that says they will not warranty any purchased on Ebay. So I call them and told them I understand you have a policy of not covering Ebay purchased Eargo's. I don't agree with it but I am willing to pay almost $300 additional dollars to act as a no warranty covered item to get a replacement. I was totally amazed at the response.

They not only told me they would not service my purchased Eargo as a out of warranty product but recommended I buy a whole new set.to remedy the problem. What company does this? I am writing reviews of their policy. I am also a television anchor reporter and letting several thousand people know how bad this companies policy is.

This is a product that can not be forged it is their product. again i was willing to pay a non warranty charge and they said "NO". I Wonder if they know what i would have said to thosands of viewers if they would have been decent about taking care of me.

The benefit to them from a News veteran with 26 years on TV that people trust. Sometimes you step over a 20.00 to pick up a dime.

EBay is not an authorized reseller for Eargo. EBay has very few authorized resellers and the few that are also have a brick and mortar store.

I understand that eBay is not an authorized retailer for eargo. That does not negate the point that I wanted them to sell me even though the product is in warranty a new earpiece.

I was willing to pay the $300 that they want it. And I’m pretty sure that they were going to make money on that. But they wanna be greedy. So when I purchase hearing aids again they won’t be on the list.

What happened to the idea of taking care of the consumer and maybe if you take care of the consumer he’ll come back and purchase from you in the future.. they should take a very close look at their business model Unless they don’t have very many happy consumers.

They didn’t sell you the item at the out of warranty price because your item was never under warranty. You never paid their $2500 price. The $300 price is for full price purchases at an authorized seller/reseller.

Unreasonable service.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I replaced my left side EARGO NEO hi-fi aid under warranty. My warranty ended 1 week after I receiver my free replacement hearing aid from Eargo.

Approximately one week later, my replacement hearing aid stopped working (one frigging week). Note that my original warranty ended approximately 1 week after I received my replacement. So...now, according to your agent that I just spoke to, I have to pay $250 to get another replacement. Shouldn't I be able to get another free replacement for the one that lasted just one week after I got it?

If not, then that's just a crime.

I am extremely disappointed with your product and service. rfrisz@***.com

A thumbs up for Eargo. They sent me a free replacement (actually a new unit) for my faulty hearing aids.

I've been wearing them for a couple of weeks with no complaints! Thanks again!

New update: My original rating of one star still stands. They are very fragile.

The replacement eargos that I received had a problem: Listen, the summary is this: My new set came and the charger and the left eargo did not work. A tech person fixed the charger online. For the faulty left eargo, I was instructed to do a cleaning with compressed air, install a ew wax guard, etc. After doing this cleaning procedure for more than a couple of days, the left eargo finally started to work.

However about a day later the left one again stopped working. In spite of doing the cleaning routine again, the left eargo never worked again. My right eargo has been acting up with some strange periodic "beep" noise. Frustrating...

I believe that I'm entitled to receive a new replacement left eargo for no charge with a new warranty. The response from eargo was to pay $295 for a new left eargo.

Complaint

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I bought Eargo Neos 2 years ago. I have had to return both left and right twice over the 2 years because they just quit working. I received both left and right in July 2021. The left one quit working in Dec 2021. Eargo claims that I am one (1) month over the warranty. They will not replace the hearing aid even thou it only worked for 5 months. They want to charge me $250 for a replacement. I am very dis-satisfied with the treatment I have received and also the product. Glen De Hart. St Louis, MO

Inferior product

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Ever since I have received these hi-fi eargos I have had nothing but trouble. First the left stops working after a few months, they send another, then the right stops, get another. Then again the left. All of this is each after a few months of working. I clean them every day, change the filters, do everything that they say to do. Nothing helps. I can hear better without them.

Failure to Honor Trial Period

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Do not get Eargo if you have heavy earwax. Since they have since modified the Eargo 5 to allow removal of debris behind the microphone they are certainly aware of the problem but would not accept that a trial period requires a working product. My experience with Eargo Neo HiFi has been extremely frustrating. I have spent countless times contacting Eargo (with long waits on hold). Despite the fact that I have carefully cleaned and probably replaced wax guards too often I am plagued by unreliable hearing aids. I ordered Eargo Neo HiFi on April 25, 2021. They worked briefly until early May. After several conversations with your representative I ordered a replacement for the right ear on May 11. The left ear aid showed no amplification in late June. Again, after speaking with your representatives I ordered a replacement on July 2. The left failed again and I ordered a replacement after discussing with your representative on July 20. In early August both failed. The left just quit amplifying after a short time, the right would suddenly squeal for about 10 seconds and die. The right hearing aid died again Sept 29. It was replaced in about a week. The left died in mid-October. I have used up most of my wax guards as I have replaced numerous times to see if that made a difference. I have tried an electric toothbrush, as one representative suggested, used separate brushes on microphone and speaker end, and flushed with compressed air. I was advised that my replacements showed signs of wax getting under the microphone cover. I seem to secrete a relatively large amount of earwax but did not find out that wax under the cover could be the basis for my problem. I asked about returns and was told that I was outside my 45 day return period despite never having had 45 day of use without failure. Either there is a quality control problem on the Eargo Neo Hi Fi or they are somehow unsuitable for me. I respectfully request the right to return the Eargo Neo HiFi hearing aids on the basis that I have not had a full 45 days during which both hearing aids worked. My only other resort, which I am reluctant to do is to warn others of my unsatisfactory experiences in public bulletin boards.

Customer service is not responding to email a return level

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I lost my eargos and ordered a second pair of eargos Including a charger. However i found my charger so it was not necessary to purchase a new charger. I received the box and call them to tell them I did not need the chargers. They said not to open the box and return the box containing the two hearing aids and the chargers and to reorder only the hearing aids. I follow their orders and purchase the two hearing aids. However, it has been days on the phone requesting the return level and I am told it will be in my email but that's not the case. Its frustrating they have my money and I can't return the box and paid for another pair. I have not options but to dispute the charge. More waste to time.

Horrible Quality

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Purchased 1 set in 2016 and really liked the performance and near invisible nature of the product. I wore them from 7am to 10pm generally without problem.

However, every 3 or 4 months one of the units would fail. As I wanted Eargo to be successful and as an electrical engineer able to determine the difference between a cleaning issue and a hardware/software problem, I regularly worked with the techs in troubleshooting. Eargo happily exchanged the units for another one but I always felt like I was getting a refurbished unit...which of course failed within the next 4 - 5 months. After 3+ years of exchanging, Eargo indicated I was way beyond the end of warranty and they made me buy a new set for $2500 or so.

I was semi happy as I hoped the quality was improved. Based on my experience, I purchased the 2nd year of warranty. The quality was slightly improved as I would get 6 months of working before failing...but they happily replaced each time. Again, I felt I was getting a refurbished unit.

Now, my 2 year warranty has ended and Eargo wants to sell me an upgrade for $2500. While I like the product, the poor quality is leading me buy a different product. Hearing aids last between 3 and 7 years. Eargo's units last 6 months...or as long as the warranty with replacements.

My concerns were validated when I looked at reviews on Amazon. Amazon indicated that the number of complaints were so high that I could not file a review as I didn't buy through Amazon; this explains a great deal.

At this point, I would estimate the cost/year to hear (here) is about $1000/year...but only because of extensive use of the warranty. I find the aggravation of periodically losing hearing and requiring/using the warranty process to be unacceptable.

In this day in age, the warranty should be for the exception process when a small number of products fail to meet quality expectations, not the norm or the foundation of the standard business model. Can you imagine exchanging your computer every 4 to 6 months because it failed?

Pros:
  • Rechargeable good for a full day
Cons:
  • Frequent failures requiring exchanges

Preferred solution: I would like replacement of the current failed unit and another year of warranty on both the current working unit which is only 8 months old, as well as the replacement unit if provided by Eargo
